Pocket Tree Meadow
Interactive Storybook App Series

Pocket tree Meadow is an Interactive Storybook App concept created by Cat Little and myself that is currently submitted for project funding. Like 'Treasure Tree', I took the role of designer for the project and have showcased some of the production illustrations, artwork and development work here.

'Pocket Tree Meadow' was very much the precursor to our 'Treasure Tree' project but with the intention of designing a property for the app market. The app/property was designed for a target audience of 2 to 5 year olds, with the intent of the producing a trans-media IP.

The initial premise for 'Pocket Tree Meadow' focused on a 'Doll House' experience where the user accessed expandable meadow environments that house animal characters called 'Little Softies'. The idea is that the user grows their own Pocket Tree, which creates new pocket homes for other new collectible characters. With every new character comes a new story adventure... and the result is an interactive app that becomes are repayable environment that houses a charming library of collectible stories.

Cat Little's tagline for the project was 'What if a hedgehog lived next door to a meerkat... or a family of shrews where neighbours to spider monkeys? To find out, grow your own Pocket Tree and start collecting the Little Softies!'

The original line up of 'rendered' characters I designed that would appear in the first version of the app included Beer, Hedgehog, Squirrel, Shrew, Panda and Sloth.
Character line art mockups and rough colour palette designs for the 'Little Softies' including some unused designs such as Owl and the Rabbit Twins.
Early rough draft character designs - a lot of these designs are exploring shapes and the broader design language of the property rather than specific developed characters
Early concepts in a 'flat' design style of the 'Pocket Trees' in the Meadow environment. These concepts illustrated the idea of  environments following and changing to match the actual time of day (morning, evening, night etc.) and weather conditions (rainy, sunny, cloudy) all accessible through the users device and location information.
Early Meadow sketches exploring the idea of pocket trees that acted as an interface, toy and storytelling device that would work in a landscape format (tablets, phones).
