Visual Storytelling Card Game
'7 Gateways: A Visual Storytelling Card Game' prototype designed as part of the Practice 1 module for the MA Illustration (Online) University of Hertfordshire.
The individual card designs including a 'plot' card with demon mask back and plot information. The picture cards were illustrated traditionally mixing water colour backdrops with lino print silhouettes and stamps. The two approaches were composited together in Photoshop along with additional effects.
Initial thumbnail planning for the final card design emphasizing stark contrasts through the use of silhouettes. The thumbnails were created using graphite pencils and ink pens to mimic the mixed media approach of the larger pieces in a quick fashion. The subject matter is based on Japanese folklore and tales such as Yokai (Mysterious Creatures).
